Operating in the pharmaceutical market, we closely examine the changes and trends awaiting us this year. Pharmaceutical companies must be ready to adapt to new trends and innovations to successfully compete in the market.

At Prespack, we carefully monitor anticipated transformations. We are committed to ensuring our team actively supports you and stays up to date with industry developments. So, what innovations and changes await us in the coming year?

Contract packaging outsourcing in a strong position

One of the key areas significantly impacting the development of the pharmaceutical sector is the growing importance of contract packaging outsourcing. Entrusting such services to an external company is becoming an essential element of strategies for businesses seeking efficient and flexible solutions. With increasingly restrictive standards, outsourcing the packaging of medicinal products or medical devices has become a key tool enabling companies to focus on their core competencies. Additionally, companies choosing to implement this strategy gain access to specialized knowledge and resources. Outsourcing secondary contract packaging at Prespack involves comprehensive support for pharmaceutical entities in terms of both services and the supply of packaging materials. We operate on the basis of a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Authorization and a GMP Certificate. Cooperation with an experienced packaging partner can bring numerous benefits, strengthening a company’s position in the competitive pharmaceutical market.

Expense optimization

Faced with growing competition and pressure to increase efficiency, enterprises are beginning to recognize the necessity of strategic cost management. Analysis and expense optimization are becoming key elements in maintaining competitiveness and ensuring financial stability. To enhance business efficiency and optimize processes, outsourcing contract packaging services for medicinal products and medical devices comes to the aid. Companies like Prespack, acting as a Contract Packaging Organization (CPO), provide comprehensive services targeted at the pharmaceutical sector. This helps reduce workload and resource expenditure on the manufacturer’s side. Pharmaceutical companies very frequently outsource contract packaging, thereby reducing costs in areas such as warehousing, labeling, serialization and aggregation, or logistics. Practically everyone benefits—both your company, by saving on employee hiring costs and technological solution investments, and patients, who receive products manufactured in a safe manner. In this way, you gain a significant competitive advantage!

Digitalization and an innovative approach

It is impossible to omit the role that digitalization plays in the modern pharmaceutical industry from this “compilation” of trends. As technology advances, companies are beginning to realize the potential of fully utilizing modern digital solutions. From research and development processes to supply chain management, digitalization is becoming the engine of innovation, shortening time to market and increasing operational efficiency.

Safety and full traceability are extremely important factors. Pharmaceutical serialization and aggregation are two complementary processes that facilitate the realization of these goals. This provides new opportunities in tracking medicinal products within the supply chain. This is inherently linked with the modernization of the production process. Serialization is a legal requirement. Aggregation allows for radical time savings. Through it, we eliminate the need to open every batch or master carton to find and scan a single product, while ensuring that no duplicate serial number exists among the serialized products. All data is readily available, making products easy to trace. This positively impacts the efficiency of the distribution process and, consequently, the safety and reliability of operations. Analyzing trends and changes arising from our clients’ needs, our offering includes both serialization and pharmaceutical aggregation services. In this way, we want to provide our Partners with additional opportunities to safeguard their products.

Changes in polish regulations regarding the Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products

Changes in Polish regulations concerning the registration of medicinal products, medical devices, and biocidal products came into effect on January 3, 2024, sketching a new landscape in the approval and market introduction process for medicines. A key initiative in this regard is the simplification of information contained in marketing authorizations for medicinal products, which is intended to streamline and increase the transparency of the entire process.

From now on, authorizations will contain information about the name and address of the manufacturer or importer where batch release takes place, and the site of manufacturing or importing operations where batch control occurs. This significant simplification, in accordance with Article 23(1)(2) of the Pharmaceutical Law Act of September 6, 2001, aims not only to increase transparency but also to adapt regulations to current industry standards and needs.

It is worth noting that changing the names of authorization points does not require additional regulatory actions on the part of marketing authorization holders. This is particularly important since these changes do not affect the medicinal product’s documentation or decisions already issued. Pharmaceutical companies can thus consciously adapt to the new regulations knowing that these changes do not entail the need for a re-examination of documentation or additional administrative steps.

It is also worth noting that the introduced changes encompass decisions on changing the marketing authorization holder, decisions on extending the validity period of an authorization, and decisions modifying the authorization regarding control sites and batch releases. The new shape of regulations thus poses new challenges for the pharmaceutical industry, but simultaneously opens doors to more efficient and cohesive functioning on the market.

Summary

The pharmaceutical industry in 2024 faces a series of challenges, but also new development opportunities. A key element will be the skillful utilization of trends such as outsourcing, expense optimization, digitalization, and an innovative approach to gain a competitive advantage and effectively respond to changing market needs.

By utilizing contract packaging services at Prespack, you gain a multidimensional partnership.
